Protovis: SVG toolkit for visualization
Developed at Stanford, Protovis is an SVG-powered data visualization toolkit for web browsers. Their example page shows you some of the visualizations that Protovis can manage. I especially appreciate the inclusion of Tufte’s sparklines.
Even though it’s in the early stages of development, with support for only Firefox 3, Chrome and Safari 4, it’s still really worth checking out. For those more academically inclined, you can check out the research paper to learn more about it.
The API documentation and examples will give you a better idea of how it can be used, and you can even download it and start tinkering.
Thankfully, they are also working on providing interactions with the data, so I will definitely keep my eye on their progress.
